Evernote, the popular note-taking app, announced that it would be purchased and taken over by an Italian mobile developer Bending Spoons. The deal is expected to close in 2023.
Evernote will be added to Bending Spoons' current software roster, including the AI picture improvement tool Remini and Splice video editing app. Ian Small, the CEO of Evernote, claims that the agreement will enable his company to utilise Bending Spoons' established App expertise and a wide variety of proprietary technologies to develop new features.
Evernote's Diminished Profits
As one of the first note-taking programmes, Evernote gained popularity after its 2008 launch. However, the development of competing productivity applications like Notion made it difficult for the programme to stay popular in recent years. In 2016, it also drew criticism for almost implementing a new privacy policy that would have permitted staff to view your content.
After losing CEOs for a while, the business steadied its sales at about $100 million annually in 2018, with more than 250 million members. But the rivalry was having an impact. The web-based task management and note-taking came second to more comprehensive offerings focused on collaboration.
Due to its cross-platform usability and sizable user base, Google's Keep product provided many fundamental capabilities without introducing additional software into business settings. In the mobile space, Notion also provided substantially enhanced functionality.
Simply put, Evernote was unable to meet client demand for certain features. Alternately, Evernote removed the features for unknown reasons that were in demand. As the years passed, the application's bloated and its sluggish nature seemed to be the main complaint.
The mobile-based applications that Bending Spoons maintains are diverse. These include the Splice video editor, the Remini photo editing software, and the 30-Day Fitness personal trainer app.
Additionally, the Italian business has a strong tech stack, expertise in mobile performance and a strong AI base. Two months ago, Bending Spoons raised $340 million. It's possible that Evernote has found a place to call home, giving it fresh vitality.
The specifics of the acquisition have not been disclosed, but it is to be hoped that the acquisition will benefit the veteran software company's surviving faithful clients.
